I Mean, the Number One Topic!_

Introduction

Hey, folks! How have you been?

Today's silly story picks up where our little "below the belt" talk left off.

_Part 1 (the "number one" edition) is here → Poetic Restrooms & Sacred Warranties: From Japanese Toilet Verse to Divine Disclaimers

So, this morning, while I was gardening, my belly suddenly started to feel restless. I just got back from the bathroom.

Back when I was working, this often happened before I left for the office. Since I retired, my rhythm has changed. I did a little reading, and it seems daily habits affect the gut more than I expected.

Luckily, I've found a fairly steady rhythm. But I hear plenty of people are struggling. So, hoping to help, I strained... I mean, I racked my brain for a few verses.

Senryu (short poems)

Microwave running—
those few minutes of waiting
are perfect for squats.

Let the robot do it—
the price of the easy life:
a backed-up gut.

📝 In this image, the red cross-out is a pun: 超 (chō, "super") is corrected to 腸 (chō, "gut"). Same sound, different meaning. "Super clogged... I mean, gut clogged."

Pulling up weeds—
the garden gets lighter,
and so do you.

Reach up, bend down,
hanging the laundry:
your gut's best friend.

Kyoka (comic tanka)

Pulling weeds, hanging laundry,
standing up and sitting down.
In a life that keeps moving,
the gut finds its rhythm too.

How grateful we are
for gadgets that make life easy—
but for a gut that won't move,
the warranty's expired.

Robots clean, microwaves cook;
take it too easy, and your gut takes a break too.
Mind your feet—
kyakka unko.

📝 Note on #7
Kyakka unko (脚下雲固) is a pun on the Zen phrase kyakka shōko (脚下照顧 :
look at your own feet")
. Unko is Japanese for poop. The pun doesn't translate, so I'm leaving it in Japanese. 😄

A Word from Me

Modern life is wonderful. But if we move less because things are easier, maybe our gut also takes a rest. Of course, this is only my guess. I can't say that appliances cause constipation.

The point is simple: pull some weeds, hang some laundry, or just stand up and squat down a few times around the house. Anyone can do it, whoever you are.

But if constipation lasts a long time, or you have stomach pain or blood in your stool, this is no time for poems. Please see a doctor first. I am not one.

Once your gut's warranty runs out, even a long-term extended warranty won't help.

📝 Note
In Japanese, 腸器 (chōki, a made-up word meaning "gut organ") sounds exactly like 長期 (chōki, "long-term"). That's the pun!

By the Way

By the way, translation tools are popular these days, but puns still seem out of their reach. An AI helped with the English here, but I scratched my head over the pun notes too. 🍵

Ending

Oops, before I start drinking 🍶/🍺/🍷, I think I'll go back to my garden 🏡.
Why not stand up and sit down🚶/🪑a few times yourself?

Note: A small study of 28 healthy volunteers found that squatting reduced both the time and the perceived straining of defecation compared with sitting. It looked at toilet posture, not gardening, so the link to weeding is only a loose analogy.
